Hayti man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

HAYTI, Mo.-- Police intervened in a situation on Monday, in which an intoxicated man was driving in such a reckless manner, it could have been potentially dangerous to others on the road. According to Hayti Police Chief Paul Shecknell, at approximately 9:58 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Arthur Liddell, 28, of Hayti, for careless and imprudent driving at excessive speeds. Liddell, who was operating the vehicle on a suspended Missouri license, was acting suspicious, according to the police, which led them to investigate further. As a result of the effort, investigators located a large clear plastic bag containing marijuana, and were prompted to perform a field sobriety test on Liddell based on the fact that a strong smell of alcohol was present. Liddell was subsequently charged with driving while intoxicated, careless and imprudent driving by excessive speed while drinking, and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Liddell was issued a cash-only bond amount of $1,175, and a court date of April 7, 2011 where he will face his charges before Judge Byron Luber.

He was processed at the Pemiscot County Justice Center and later released after posting a $70,000 bond.
